Using mindmap with notion [ENG]

[This article has been translated into English because we have a lot of international visitors.]

A while back, I shared three great tips for planners.
Then I found an amazing site that I wanted to share.

whimsical.com

https://whimsical.com/

It’s called whimsical and it has a great feature where you can use flowcharts, wireframes, sticky notes, and mind maps and embed them in notion.

Flowcharts and mind maps are available in both ydp and xmind, which I introduced last time, but I was always disappointed that they can only be attached to notions as images or files, but this site solves all of that.

Of course, you have to pay for what you get.

If you pay for a year, it costs about $1.0 per month. But if you haven’t bought any other programs yet, this is much better.
It’s really good. I only use it now.

Of course, there is a feature that overlaps with notion. It’s called sticky Notes,
which is like trello. But it’s also built into notion.

When I start a project, I open the trello page and use notion to get started, and then I don’t use trello from there.

When I work on a new project with new people, most of them open the trello page and tell them to join, and most of them join only then, so it’s easier to use Notion for new signups and usage anyway.

Still, it’s a bit serious that IT workers still don’t have a trello account….

USE

Anyway, you can compare with the sticky notes provided on this site and use the one you like. (No screenshots because I don’t use this one..)

There’s not much to say about mindmaps and flowcharts. However, I would like to talk about WireFrame.

This is how you can make a mindmap. The usage is the same

이런식으로 마인드맵이 가능하다. 사용법은 동일
Flowcharts are just as easy to use.

WIREFRAME

This is a real thing.

Of course, I didn’t work on it. This is an image from the official website.
It’s all there.

It has everything from screen composition to coloring and most of the necessary elements.

I personally work in game design, but I also do a lot of outsourced web and app development, and this is very efficient.
I share a Notion page with my collaborators and do all the necessary planning work in Notion, and I put the wireframe there, so I don’t have to create a separate document.

I can also make changes as they come up and just change the embedding code. The speed of giving and receiving feedback is incredibly fast.
This is a common problem in work.

  1. Design Document distribution
  2. Revision request
  3. Make changes
  4. Redistribute the proposal
  5. Feedback

Normally, this process would cause a delay in the progress of revisions and redistribution of the proposal, and a lot of feedback would be chewed up.
But with notion and whimsical, you can skip the whole process of sharing and distributing documents.

For the person giving feedback and requesting revisions, they don’t have to wait for the document, they can just work on it and edit the link and see it immediately,
Notion’s comment feature allows you to give additional feedback immediately, which is great because it doesn’t take up much of your time.

Embedding Notion

If you’ve used notion for a while, you know that pressing “/” calls up a menu. Here we write /wh to get the menu for embedding whimsical.

Add the link of the whimsical you worked on and press the Embed Whimsical button.

It’s really easy. No explanation needed.

Is it invincible? (Cons)

Absolutely not. After using it for a few weeks, I realized that it has a fatal flaw.

It’s that the space key doesn’t work when typing in korean, which is fine for English.
Hangul is a combination character, so the site’s input system, which is designed for English, doesn’t recognize a single space.

So you always have to press space twice. ㅡㅡ;;

If you work on whimsical for a few hours and then start working on notions.

Sad… But I think this is something that will be naturally compensated for as the number of Korean users increases. Most programs are like that. What’s this…. hehe

Today, I learned about a good site to use mindmap in notion.
Let’s use various tools to build a smarter work environment.

See you in the next post.
